Supporting in Prayer – A Prayer Meeting with the Mizo Fellowship
Apr 2021

2 Corinthians 10:3 "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.

On 1st February 2021, a coup d’état was initiated against the ruling party, the National League for Democracy. The military took control of the nation, with more than 2729 individuals arrested and another 536 killed as of 31 March 2021. Protests across the nations continue daily and our Burmese brothers and sisters continue to be hurt by arrests, fatalities and separation from their families.

To stand in solidarity with our Burmese brothers and sisters, the Presbyterian Church of Singapore organised a joint prayer meeting with the Mizo Fellowship of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church on 26 March 2021.

Reverend Julie Sim, the East and South Asian Mission Secretary in Council for World Missions (CWM), Reverend Dr. Li Hau Tiong and wife Mrs. Hsu Su Fen representing The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT), and Reverend Teo Yew Tiong, the General Secretary of The Presbyterian Church in Singapore (PCS), were amongst some of the attendees that were at the prayer meeting.

Preacher Mary of the Mizo Fellowship led the participants through prayer for the well-being and security of the Burmese individuals, families and other key individuals. She also called for continued prayer for Myanmar — for justice to prevail and for mercy to be established in the hearts of both the people and the military. The Mizo Fellowship continues to support the Burmese in Singapore, many of whom are focused on helping their families financially from Singapore.

Reverend Sim commented that though it may seem that the church in Singapore is helpless against this matter, we are not hopeless. The weapon we hold is the power of prayer.

And quoting Reverend Teo, “Pray for Myanmar, this is what we as Christians have to do now,” let us continue to keep the situation, the people, the authorities in prayer, and for peace to prevail without the use of violence.
