Synod Sunday
In the past, we had been allocating one Sunday of each year as the Synod Sunday. The purpose is to foster unity and to encourage communication among the Presbyterian churches. On that particular day, pastors from various churches were engaged in a “pulpit exchange,” speaking in churches other than their own, engaging as it were, in a game of “Blow Wind Blow.” It is a meaningful tradition. To further enrich this tradition, past Synod Moderators had been providing a common sermon topic for the pulpit. This year, Rt Rev Dr Gan has proposed using “Living For God’s Glory” as a common pulpit theme based on I Corinthians 10:23-33. In the light of our Anniversary Theme – A Blessing to our Community (A.B.C.) – he believes that it is appropriate for us to pause to ponder whether our conduct as a Christian, our convictions as a local Church and our contributions as a Denomination, have been a blessing to the people around us. In addition, the Synod Moderator humbly requests, on behalf of the Synod Exco, all churches to do a Second Collection. This is for the purpose of supporting our ongoing School Ministry and Overseas Missions projects. We believe that your contributions will go a long way in expanding God’s kingdom and in educating not just the current cohort of students but also the generations to come.
