KCPPS Speech and Prize Giving Day
Dec 2014
William Butler Yeats, an Irish Poet, once said that 'Education is not filling a pail but the lighting of a fire'. This quote was certainly displayed by the students of Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School as they received their prizes for academic excellence on 14 November 2014, the school’s Speech and Prize Giving day.
The guest-of-honour for that day was Mr Richard Lim, President of the school’s Alumni Association, who spoke about the school and encouraged the students to do their best. As the school was still at their temporary holding site and due to the lack of space, the entire ceremony was split into two parts. The upper primary students first received their prizes, followed by an interlude and then the lower primary students. Apart from the awards for academic excellence in school subjects, the school also has a special award called the ‘kid of character’ award. This award is given to one particular student in every class who is judged to have strongly exhibited the school values, namely: Amazing Love, Resilience, Integrity, Self Discipline and Excellence. It is gratifying to see that these young students not only do well in their studies, but cultivate their character as well.
Of course, no awards day can be without performances. The school orchestra showcased their musical talents with a medley of songs, including popular tunes such as 'Let it Go' from the movie Frozen and 'Moves like Jagger' from the band Maroon 5. The school dance club also showed off their dance moves by performing the dance ‘Para Para Sakura’ from the movie of the same title. It was a truly memorable day and we sincerely hope that the students continue to work hard in their studies, that they may contribute greatly to society in the future.
